As we have mentioned before, planning your Spain itinerary in advance is very important as it will help you booking transport, accommodation and attractions with enough time to find the best deals. This is vital especially if you are traveling during peak season, otherwise, you might not find what you are looking for because it is sold out.
Below, you will find some useful information to help you plan your trip successfully, let’s see what they are.
Spain Itinerary Travel Tips.
Best time to visit: Spain is a destination that you can visit all year round. You only need to take into account that weather is different in different regions, the north is colder and it rains more often than the south, which is hotter.
If you would like to visit the north and south, the best time to do it would be from April to June or in September and October. In July and August the inland south (Seville, Córdoba, Granada) often goes above 40°C, which is great for the northern coast but hard for sightseeing in Andalusia.

Do I need a Visa to travel to Spain?: Spain is in the Schengen area. Citizens of the US, the UK, Canada and Australia, among many others, can stay up to 90 days in any 180 without a visa. Since April 2026 the Entry/Exit System (EES) registers non-EU travellers with a photo and fingerprints the first time they enter, instead of stamping the passport, so allow some extra time at the border. The ETIAS travel authorisation (20 euros) has been delayed to 2027 and is not needed yet. Click here to check if your nationality needs a visa.
Safety: Spain is generally a pretty safe country.
However, it is important that you have good travel insurance when traveling to Spain.

Currency: Euro
What to pack: In winter temperatures go from 0 degrees to 10 in the north and in the south are warmer. In summer the north gets hotter with temperatures up to 24 and a minimum of 10 at night.
We recommend you to take warm clothes for the north, lightweight clothing of natural fibers, and comfortable shoes. In the south, you will need breathable clothes.
How to move around: The best way to move around in Spain is by train as it is fast and more sustainable than by plane. You can use the website Omio. Alternatively, you can travel by plane for longer distances (check Skyscanner for best rates) or you can also rent a car to move around Spain freely.
How to get to Spain.
You can also book your train tickets with InterRail or Eurail which allows you to travel around other countries in Europe.
By boat: You can also get to Spain by ferry from different ports, such us Italy, France, Uk, Morocco or Algeria. These ports have frequent services to Spain, eventhough it takes at least 10 hours to get to Spain. Spain is also a famous destination among the cruise companies, thanks to its 8000 km of coast line. You can also arrive to Spain onboard of a cruise ship.
By Car: Visiting Spain by car is another option for travelers who are on a road trip in Europe. It is an easy way to move around the country freely without having to book the tickets in advance. However, it is very important that you check the conditions for driving in Spain.

By Plane
Moving around Spain by plane is very comfortable as there are intern flights operating regularly across the country.
There are also low-cost airlines that offer cheap direct flights. The main airlines for domestic flights are Vueling, Iberia, Ryanair, Air Europa, Volotea and, for the Canary Islands, Binter. You can find the best deals in Skyscanner.
Train
Moving around Spain by train is probably one of the best options. Spain operates a wide network of trains that connects almost everywhere in Spain. Traveling by train is pretty fast, especially on the high-speed lines. Since 2021 Renfe (AVE and the low-cost Avlo) competes with Iryo and Ouigo on the busiest routes, so Madrid–Barcelona (about 2h30), Madrid–Valencia and Madrid–Córdoba–Seville/Málaga are often cheap if you book ahead. Madrid–Granada is Renfe only, and Madrid–Bilbao is not a full high-speed line yet (about 4h45, two direct trains a day). The Madrid–Seville line had works and speed limits in 2026 after the Adamuz accident in January, so check the timetable before you plan tight connections.

Bus
Moving around Spain by bus is the best way to save money in transport as it is cheaper than flights and trains.
Even though is not the fastest way, buses in Spain are modern and comfortable with connexions to almost every point in the country. If you would like to save money and you have enough time, traveling around Spain by bus could be a great option.

Also, within the cities and villages you can use of the public buses to move around. They normaly cost less than 2 € and there are bus stops almost everywhere. If you are not sure where to get off you can ask the driver and they will give you indications.
Car
Another recommended way to move around in Spain is by renting a car. This is a great option if you are undertaking a road trip and would like to get to more off the beaten track places.. Driving around most of the places in Spain is easy, and roads are in good condition. If you get out of the main cities, you might find yourself alone on the road. However, if you would like to drive in Spain you need to check the requirements before.
