Things to do in Segovia

Admire the aqueduct of Segovia

aqueduct of Segovia

The aqueduct of Segovia is one of the most stunning Roman monuments in Europe.

It runs 15 kilometers before it even reaches the city, which is pretty amazing.

The best place where to admire and enjoy the views of the aqueduct is in Plaza Azueguego. From here, you can choose from a view from one of the many terraces or maybe climb the stairs for a much better view of all the landscape.

Visit Segovia Cathedral

Segovia Cathedral

The cathedral of Segovia was built in and old-fashioned gothic style.

It is conveniently located in the main square of the city.

We suggest you explore the main square to contemplate the cathedral and then visit the inside to admire its architecture and paintings.

Contemplate the views from Mirador de la Pradera de San Marcos

Mirador de la Pradera de San Marcos

Mirador de la pradera de San Marcos offers you the best views over the Alcazar of Segovia.

It is a quiet spot and a great place for a break an keep planning your route ahead.

Go to the Alcazar of Segovia

view from alcazar

Imposing on the top of a cliff, you can find The Alcazar of Segovia that has Roman and Moorish origins.

This is probably the most visited attraction in Segovia. We recommend getting a ticket with an audio guide so you can make the most of this tour. It will show you around the Throne Room and the Hall of Kings while offering amazing views from the towers.

It is quite big, so allow at the very least a few hours for a complete visit.

Adventure into the Jewish Quarter

la juderia

The Jewish Quarter is one of the most unique areas in Segovia. As the Jews were expelled from Spain by the catholic monarchs, there are few traces left of the Jewish population.

On this space remains a couple of synagogues, palaces, museums and buildings which evoke its Jewish past, distributed amongst a set of streets rife with medieval mystery.

The streets around the cathedral do follow the same plan as to when this was a ghetto. A walk through the Jewish quarter will transport you to another time far from the conventional routes of Segovia.

Best Restaurants in Segovia

Segovia is known for the Cochinillo. A dish consisting of a roasted suckling pig with succulent meat, tender, and crispy skin, and a very thin layer of fat. The meat is so tender that it practically falls apart when cooked properly.

Although that is the most famous dish, the offer in Segovia is incredible due to the successful local tourism.

Some restaurants that we recommend to try in Segovia are:

  • Restaurante Jose Maria. Probably one of the most famous and an outstanding culinary experience. If you want to try the best cochinillo in Segovia, this is the place. The great service together with a nice atmosphere makes this place a must-visit.
  • Restaurante Bar El Sitio. Personally, this would be my top choice. The reason: this place has a great variety of tapas and value for money is top. Not to mention portions are very generous. Normally is also easier to find a place on this one.
  • Asador Maribel.  Another great option where to find the typical Segovian food: sucking pig, cured meats, black pudding made of blood and rice, and mushrooms. Here you can find a good variety of local red wine which goes well with meats.
  • Restaurante Claustro De San Antonio El Real. For more vegetarian options and perhaps the most unique location, this is the place to go. Located inside a monastery converted to a hotel, they have a great variety of vegan tapas and all kinds of dishes.
